(Return-to-Function Metrics)
Focus:
Return-to-Function Metrics measure how effectively and how soon a patient regains mobility, daily activity, or occupational capacity after surgery, injury, or illness
Relevant Survey:
- Body Part: Condition-Specific (Orthopedic, Neurological, or Surgical Recovery)
- Area Of Focus: Post-Surgical Recovery, Functional Independence, Work and Sport Participation
These can be captured using standardized PROMs (e.g., PROMIS, KOOS, or condition-specific scales) and clinician-reported data
Description:
Return-to-Function Metrics represent a set of outcome measures designed to evaluate a patient’s ability to resume normal daily life, occupational duties, or athletic activity. They are especially important in orthopedic and sports medicine, where recovery timelines guide treatment and rehabilitation. These measures are often combined with PROMs and clinical assessments.
Use Cases:
- Tracking rehabilitation progress post-surgery.
- Evaluating readiness for return to work or sport.
- Comparing recovery outcomes between surgical and conservative treatments.
- Measuring quality of life improvements after injury.
- Supporting insurers and employers with return-to-work data.
