TESS

(Toronto Extremity Salvage Score)

Focus:

The Toronto Extremity Salvage Score (TESS) focuses on measuring physical function and disability in patients with extremity bone and soft tissue sarcoma following surgical treatment, including limb-sparing surgery and amputation.

Relevant Survey:

  • Body Part: Upper and Lower Extremities
  • Area Of Focus: Post-Surgical Functional Outcomes, Sarcoma Recovery, Limb Salvage vs. Amputation

The TESS is a validated PROM that evaluates patient-perceived ability to perform daily and social activities after surgical management of sarcomas.

Description:

The TESS is a condition-specific PROM designed to capture functional status in patients treated for extremity sarcomas. It assesses mobility, self-care, daily living, and social activities. Patients rate the difficulty of performing various tasks, producing a score from 0 (severe disability) to 100 (normal function). It is widely used in oncology rehabilitation and orthopedic oncology research.

Use Cases:

  • Assessing functional recovery after limb-sparing surgery or amputation.
  • Comparing surgical interventions in orthopedic oncology.
  • Tracking rehabilitation progress over time.
  • Supporting survivorship care and patient counseling.
  • Oncology research measuring patient-centered outcomes.
