Enneking Functional Evaluation System (MSTS Score)
Focus:
The Enneking Functional Evaluation System, also known as the MSTS (Musculoskeletal Tumor Society) Score, evaluates functional outcomes in patients treated surgically for musculoskeletal tumors.
Relevant Survey:
- Body Part: Upper and Lower Extremities
- Area Of Focus: Post-Surgical Functional Outcomes, Pain, Emotional and Social Acceptance
This clinician-administered scoring system is widely used to assess limb function and pain after surgery for bone and soft tissue tumors.
Description:
The MSTS Score evaluates six parameters, each scored from 0–5, to produce an overall functional outcome score (0–30). For lower extremities: pain, function, emotional acceptance, supports, walking ability, and gait are assessed. For upper extremities: pain, function, emotional acceptance, hand positioning, dexterity, and lifting ability. The MSTS is a gold standard in orthopedic oncology outcome measurement.
Use Cases:
- Measuring functional outcomes in sarcoma patients after surgery.
- Comparing limb salvage vs. amputation procedures.
- Oncology clinical research.
- Tracking post-surgical rehabilitation.
- Supporting surgical decision-making.
